In response to the poor state the initial PC version was released in, Capcom hired QLOC to develop another PC port, which was released through Steam in 2014 as the Ultimate HD Edition. Despite being released on PC, however, it does not accommodate keyboard and mouse controls as it does not support mouse controls whatsoever, and in-game button prompts only references generic button numbers rather than actual keys from the keyboard. A patch was eventually released to address these issues and the poor visual downgrades. The PC version initially shipped with none of the game's original lighting, lower quality textures, and introduced bugs and crashes that were not present in the previous console versions. Another port was released for PC on May 15, 2007, however, it was based off the inferior PlayStation 2 port rather than the superior GameCube version, with even more problems than the PlayStation 2 version. The game was released for the Nintendo GameCube on January 11, 2005, and despite originally being exclusive to that system, it was ported to PlayStation 2 on October 25 the same year. It is the fourth mainline installment in the Resident Evil series.
